The victim's family alleges that the girl was gang-raped on July 19 by seven youths. The next day the woman committed suicide. Family members buried the woman's body away from the village. The girl's uncle said that he had tried to register a complaint only after the gang rape, but the police did not register a case. However, the police rejected the claims of the victim's family. The police officer claimed that he came to know about the incident after the news was published in the local media on Wednesday.

At around 11 in the night, two young men from Kanagaon took the young woman with them to the nearby forest and raped the other five youths there. The police officer said, "The next morning the victim returned home without telling anyone and committed suicide by hanging herself on the noose." He further said that the family was not aware of the rape incident and buried the girl's body on the outskirts of the village. Police have taken out the body for postmortem after the case came to light.

Two days later, the SHO of Dhanora police station called him and asked why a complaint was not lodged in the case. He said that the SHO had assured to take action, but no action was taken later. Inspector-General of Police Sunderraj said that after the girl's suicide, the police team had gone to the village but the family members had said that they would file a complaint later. At the same time, recently the victim's father attempted suicide by consuming poison, but was saved after treatment. The police officer said that the main reason behind the attempted suicide has not been known.
