In a smart diplomatic move, India recently worked closely with China to block Pakistan's entry into the BRICS Plus program. All this happened after China reportedly agreed to India as the BRICS host and blocked Pakistan's entry into the BRICS outreach program. The Economic Times quoted sources as saying that India's move was also agreed to by Russia.
This time China hosted the BRICS summit through a virtual medium. On June 24, Chinese President Xi Jinping held a high-level Dialogue on Global Development. Which BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) besides non-BRICS countries such as Iran, Egypt, Fiji, Algeria, Cambodia, Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia also participated.
How did Pakistan try to join
In this episode, Pakistan had also tried to enter the BRICS outreach program for emerging economies, but it could not succeed. One reason for this is also being told that like other invitees to the BRICS summit, Pakistan does not fit in the category of emerging markets and its economy is facing a big crisis like Sri Lanka. Pakistan is also continuously defaulting in repaying the loan. Meanwhile, the Indian Ambassador to China met Foreign Minister Wang Yi ahead of the BRICS summit to discuss several bilateral and international issues.
Pakistan indirectly accused India
Many small countries participated in the meeting of BRICS but Pakistan's entry could not be done. A statement issued by the Foreign Ministry of Pakistan said that many developing countries participated in a meeting of the BRICS summit. Sadly, a member of BRICS blocked Pakistan's participation. It is being told that Pakistan's gesture was towards India.
Still, Pakistan is praising China
China certainly had consented to India's move, but Pakistan is still engaged in praising China. On the other hand, when Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian was asked something on the issue of Pakistan in a regular news briefing on Monday, he also did not give a direct answer. However, sources are also telling that Pakistan is upset with China's position to block its entry into BRICS. On the other hand, China is disappointed with how the governments in Pakistan have handled the country's economy in the wrong way.
Let us inform you that the BRICS summit was held virtually on 23 and 24 March hosted by China. On June 24, the last day of the summit, a high-level meeting on global development was to be held on the sidelines of the BRICS meetings. Many such countries were also to attend this meeting, which is not member of the BRICS organization. The meeting was held on June 24, in which leaders of about two dozen non-BRICS countries attended.
