The Chinese Navy is soon going to induct its third aircraft carrier 'Fujian' into the Navy's fleet. China claims that this aircraft carrier is equipped with an electromagnetic aircraft launch system. This aircraft carrier is being considered a challenge to American supremacy at sea. However, it is no secret that China often exaggerates its military strength.
In such a situation, the claim of China regarding the Fujian Aircraft Carrier is also in doubt. Fujian aircraft are powered by steam energy. Whereas, American Navy supercarrier Gerald Ford, powered by atomic energy, has not been equipped with Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS) to date.
Fujian claims that this carrier is a response to US military power in the Indo-Pacific. However, Indian Navy admirals are raising fundamental questions about the potential of this career. Indian Navy war planners want to know how China will operate EMALS on steam power. Whereas, the best US Gerald Ford is still struggling with this system.
What is Electromagnetic Catapult-Assisted Launch System?
Launching a fighter plane from an aircraft carrier requires a special type of system. Because the runway of an aircraft carrier is shorter than the runway on the ground. Therefore, for the landing and launch of the plane on the aircraft carrier, a special type of system is used, which is called the CATOBAR system.
The job of the CATOBAR system is to launch and recover fighter planes from an aircraft carrier. There are two types of this system. The first steam catapult is used in most carriers today. The second is the Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS).
EMALS systems are in many respects superior to steam catapults...
Only heavy fighter planes can be launched from the HAHM catapult, while heavy as well as light fighter planes can be launched from EMALS.
The energy of the EMALS catapult system is 29% higher than that of the steam catapult, giving the plane a linear acceleration curve at launch.
The EMALS catapult system requires much less maintenance than conventional steam systems.
The top side weight can be reduced with the help of EMALS system. In addition, it enhances the launch capability of the aircraft carrier, both manned and unmanned.
Its runway ramp is at an elevation of 12 degrees so that the aircraft does not need a long runway for takeoff. ,
By 2030 there will be 5 to 6 aircraft carriers
The Global Times report says that China will have 5 to 6 aircraft carriers by 2030. China's first aircraft carrier is Liaoning while the second type 001A. Both of them have a capacity of 30-30 jets.
