About 1.32 million boys of primary and secondary schooling age are out of reach of the school and are not going to study. This claim has been made in the recent Global Education Report of UNESCO. It has been said in the report that even in the matter of education, daughters are much better and ahead than sons. The report titled Leave No Child Behind: Global Report on Boys' Disengagement from Education, raises concerns about declining education levels among boys.
Boys are more likely to repeat classes than girls
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) report states that boys are more likely than girls to re-read primary classes in 130 countries. This means that boys are more likely to repeat classes than girls. Not only this, the report states that boys are more prone to be harassed physically than girls.
Boys are lagging behind girls even at the secondary level
The report said that according to data from 57 countries, boys up to the age of 10 years lag far behind girls in terms of reading ability. At the secondary level also, adolescent boys lag behind girls. Contrary to popular belief, in many countries, boys are at high risk of failing to attend higher classes and completing their education. At present 13.20 crore, boys are not going to school. Discipline, corporal punishment, gender norms, poverty, and employment compulsion are among the reasons for the increasing distance of boys from education and school in the report.
Right to education for boys is still far away
At the same time, the report said that the objective of the right to education for boys has not been fulfilled so far. A significant number of children and adolescents are out of reach of primary and secondary school. Due to the corona epidemic, the number of children dropping out has increased rapidly.
