Congress on Thursday welcomed the remarks made by President Draupadi Murmu in the backdrop of the rape and murder of a female doctor in Kolkata. It also said that it would be good if she expressed the anger of the entire country and not of any particular region or state. On the other hand, Trinamool Congress retaliated to the President's statement and said why is she speaking now, because the incident happened in Bengal.
It is worth mentioning that President Murmu had called for curbing crimes against women in a special article and said that enough is enough. Now the time has come for India to be aware of such distortions and fight the mindset that sees women as less powerful, less capable, and less intelligent.
Anger is only about the Kolkata incident
Reacting to this, Pawan Khera, head of the media and publicity department of the Congress, said, I welcome this statement and intervention of the President. The whole country is angry. So it is natural that the President represents the anger that the country is feeling. But, the anger of the country is not only about the Kolkata incident.
He further said that Farrukhabad, Kolhapur, Badlapur, Pune, Ratnagiri, Jodhpur, Katni… so many such incidents have happened. If the President represents the anger prevailing across the country, it will be good. Trinamool Congress has strongly reacted to the President's statement.
If it happened in Bengal, then it is a social crime
