Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Sunday said Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh had to resign due to mounting pressure from the public, Supreme Court, and Congress. The Congress leader also accused Biren Singh of inciting violence in the state and Prime Minister Narendra Modi of allowing him to continue as chief minister.

In a post on the social media platform 'X', Rahul Gandhi wrote, "For nearly two years, BJP Chief Minister Biren Singh incited division in Manipur. Despite the violence in Manipur, loss of life, and destruction of the idea of India, PM Modi allowed him to continue in office." The Congress leader further said that Biren Singh's resignation shows that mounting public pressure, Supreme Court investigation, and no-confidence motion brought by Congress have erupted like a volcano.
