Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Sunday said Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh had to resign due to mounting pressure from the public, Supreme Court, and Congress. The Congress leader also accused Biren Singh of inciting violence in the state and Prime Minister Narendra Modi of allowing him to continue as chief minister.

In a post on the social media platform 'X', Rahul Gandhi wrote, "For nearly two years, BJP Chief Minister Biren Singh incited division in Manipur. Despite the violence in Manipur, loss of life, and destruction of the idea of India, PM Modi allowed him to continue in office." The Congress leader further said that Biren Singh's resignation shows that mounting public pressure, Supreme Court investigation, and no-confidence motion brought by Congress have erupted like a volcano.

He further attacked PM Modi and urged him to visit Manipur. Rahul Gandhi said the most important task is to restore peace in the state and heal the wounds of the people of Manipur. PM Modi should immediately go to Manipur, listen to the people, and reveal his plan to bring normalcy.
Resignation submitted to Governor Bhalla.
Amid the violence that has been going on in Manipur for about 20 months, Chief Minister Biren Singh today submitted his resignation to Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at the Raj Bhavan. During this, BJP President A. Sharda, BJP's Northeast Manipur in-charge Sambit Patra, and 19 MLAs were also present with him.

In his resignation, Biren Singh said, it has been an honor for me to serve Manipur till now. He expressed gratitude to the central government and said, I am grateful to the central government, which took timely action, intervened, did development work and protected the interests of every citizen of Manipur.
