Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Sunday said Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh had to resign due to mounting pressure from the public, Supreme Court, and Congress. In a post on the social media platform 'X', Rahul Gandhi wrote, "For nearly two years, BJP Chief Minister Biren Singh incited division in Manipur. Despite the violence in Manipur, loss of life, and destruction of the idea of India, PM Modi allowed him to continue in office." The Congress leader further said that Biren Singh's resignation shows that mounting public pressure, Supreme Court investigation, and no-confidence motion brought by Congress have erupted like a volcano.

Amid the violence that has been going on in Manipur for about 20 months, Chief Minister Biren Singh today submitted his resignation to Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at the Raj Bhavan.
