Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan gave his response on Wednesday regarding India's preparedness towards the Corona epidemic. He said in a two-day workshop that we were already alert about corona at entry points in India (international airports or other such places from where travelers from abroad enter India). Every citizen coming from outside was being monitored very strictly at these points. Due to this, the corona epidemic in India arrived late as compared to other countries.
Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said that Entry Points (PoEs) in the country are the first line of defense to save the country from any international pandemic. He further said that it was due to effective monitoring at these entry points that the country got time to develop the necessary public health infrastructure and capabilities to deal with the pandemic effectively. He made these remarks during a two-day workshop on creating a roadmap to strengthen public health preparedness at Points of Entry (PoE) in India.
The two-day workshop was organized on Tuesday. It was organized by the Central International Health (IH) Division, the Directorate General of Health Services, and the Union Health Ministry. The two-day workshop was attended by officials from Airport Health Organizations, Port Health Organizations, Land Port Health Organizations, IDSPs, NCDCs, Disaster Management Officers, and partner organizations like NIDM, SDMA, and CISF. The Health Ministry has also stated this.
In its statement, the Health Ministry said that Additional Secretary Lav Aggarwal informed about the various innovations made to expand and strengthen the facilities at the entry points against the epidemic in this two-day workshop. This includes the use of digital technologies to facilitate paperless health check-ups, air facility portals, plans, surveillance, testing, contact tracing, etc.
The ministry further said in the statement that the objective of the workshop was to provide a platform to bring together various stakeholders working in the field of public health and disaster management to take the lessons learned during the pandemic for future consideration.
