CUET 2022: St Stephen's College, Delhi has issued a major update regarding admission to courses under the Common University Entrance Test (CUCT). The college has said that 85 percent of marks on the examination will be considered valid for admission to the seats under CUET. After this, the remaining 15% marks will be added through the interview. This decision of the college comes after the Delhi University order asking the college to conduct admission through CUET on unreserved seats.
College issued prospectus
The prospectus issued by the college for the undergraduate courses 2022-23 states that St. Stephen's College will adopt the CUET norms for admission to the courses. However, 85 percent weightage will be on the marks in the exam. At the same time, 15 percent weightage will be given to the shortlisted candidates for interview.
CUET 2022: Conflict between university and college
There is a conflict between Delhi University and St Stephen's College regarding admission under CUET. The college, in its admission notice issued last month, had said that all the candidates would be admitted based on 85 percent marks in CUET and 15 percent marks based on interviews. However, college principal John Varghese did not respond to calls and messages to PTI.
Follow the resolution of the Executive Council
On the matter, Delhi University says that interviews should be conducted only for reserved category students. The university, in a directive to the college, had written that the college would have to follow the resolution of the executive council to conduct admissions to the general seats based on CUET scores. St. Stephen's College, however, maintains that it reserves the right to adopt the admission process by its policy of being guaranteed as a minority institution. Delhi University has sought legal opinion in the matter.
