People affected by floods in Punjab are not getting any relief yet. The reason for this is that the water level of all three dams of the state has reached near or above the danger mark.

Water level of Pong Dam above the danger mark

On Thursday, the water level of Pong Dam reached 14 feet above the danger mark. At the same time, the water level of the Bhakra Dam is also just one foot away from the danger mark. Keeping in view the safety of the dam, the flood gates of Bhakra have now been opened from seven feet to 10 feet. This has increased the risk of floods in the districts around the Sutlej river.

Embankments of the Sutlej weakened

The embankments of the Sutlej have weakened at five places in Ludhiana and at one place in the village of Sasrali, with the help of the army, a ring dam is being rapidly constructed in an area of one kilometer, 200 meters behind the embankment. Due to the continuous release of water from Bhakra and Pong dams, the Sutlej and Beas rivers are in spate.

Due to the Sutlej, there is a danger of flooding in Rupnagar, Ludhiana, and Jalandhar. There is a danger of embankment breaking due to the accumulation of water of both rivers in Harike Pattan Headworks located in Tarn Taran district. Due to the water being released from here, the situation in the flood affected villages of Ferozepur and Fazilka is getting worse.

43 people have died so far

So far, 43 people have died due to the flood in the state. 16,85 villages are in the grip of flood and 3.84 lakh people are affected. Not only this, 1.71 lakh hectares of crops have been damaged.

Teams of the Army, Air Force, NDRF, and SDRF are continuously engaged in relief and rescue operations. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has decided to deploy an officer in all the flood-affected villages. Every complaint related to flood can be registered with this officer.

Ghaggar also started creating havoc

The Ghaggar river, passing through Patiala, Sangrur, and Mansa area has also put people in trouble. The Ghanaur area of Patiala has come under the grip of a flood. 16 people trapped in the flood here were rescued on Thursday.

..Landslide in Kullu for the second day as well; one person dead, six missing

Landslides occurred at many places in Himachal due to rain on Thursday. Landslides continued in Akhada Bazaar of Kullu for the second day as well. Two houses came under its grip. One person died due to being buried under the debris.

Three people were taken out of the debris and taken to the Regional Hospital in Kullu. Six people are missing. Five of them are from Jammu and Kashmir. 15 thousand devotees trapped in Bharmour during the Mani Mahesh Yatra have been rescued safely so far. 29 devotees were airlifted by helicopter on Thursday morning. Today, there is a possibility of torrential rain in Delhi, UP, Haryana, Bihar, Jharkhand, and many other states.

.. Rain stopped in Jammu and Kashmir, but the danger is not averted

Rain stopped in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, and the water level of rivers and streams decreased, but the danger is not completely averted yet. A landslide occurred at the Ratle Hydroelectric Project site in the Kishtwar district of Jammu division on Thursday morning. Five people were injured after being buried under the debris. On the other hand, the water of the overflowing Jhelum river in Kashmir entered many nearby settlements due to a crack in the embankment in Junipora of Budgam.

.... Yamuna above danger mark in Delhi, danger of flood

The Yamuna River in Delhi is flowing more than two meters above the danger mark. On Thursday morning, the water level of the Yamuna reached 207.48 meters while the danger level is 205.33 meters. Due to this, the danger of flood has started looming like July 2023. At that time, the water level of the Yamuna had reached 208.66 meters, due to which life was disrupted for about a week.

On September 9, 1978 also, the water level had reached 207.49 meters, due to which a flood situation arose in many areas of Delhi. This time, six districts are in the grip of a flood. Yamuna water has reached residential areas in many other areas, including Ring Road, Civil Lines. Passengers are not able to reach due to waterlogging on the road outside the Yamuna Bank Metro Station.

People were shifted

Kashmere Gate ISBT is filled with water since Wednesday night. Relief camps built in low-lying areas like Mayur Vihar Phase, Yamuna Vihar were flooded. Due to this, people who took shelter there were shifted to other places.

More than 15 thousand people have become homeless due to waterlogging in Geeta Colony, Usmanpur, Badarpur Khadar, Yamuna Bazaar, Monastery Bazaar, Majun Ka Tila, Chandgi Ram Akhara, and other places. Due to the closure of Loha Pul, the problems of daily commuters have increased. The operation of more than 100 trains has been affected. More than 50 trains have been canceled.

.. The flood situation in Haryana is serious

The flood situation has become serious after the recent heavy rains in Haryana. The flood gates of Hathnikund Barrage have been open for the fourth consecutive day, due to which the water level is continuously increasing. This has created a flood threat in the areas located on the banks of the Yamuna in Yamunanagar, Karnal, Panipat, and Sonipat.

Tangri-Markanda and its tributary river Begana are also in spate in Ambala. Due to this, flood water is flowing over the Ambala-Roorkee National Highway-344. One side of the highway has had to be closed, which has created a traffic jam situation.
