The effect of this cyclone will be seen from Odisha to Bengal, Bihar, and Jharkhand. This storm can hit the surface between the National Park and Dhamra Port. According to the Meteorological Department, this storm is coming towards Odisha at a speed of 15 kilometers per hour. It is currently 560 kilometers from Paradip and 630 kilometers from Sagardwip.
Indian Coast Guard on 'High Alert'
Given the forecast of cyclone Dana hitting the coasts of West Bengal and Odisha on 24-25 October, the Indian Coast Guard is on high alert and has deployed its ships and aircraft to deal with any emergency in the sea. The Defence Ministry said in a statement that the Coast Guard is closely monitoring the situation and proactive steps have been taken to ensure preparedness to deal with any emergency arising out of the impact of the cyclone.
The statement said that the Coast Guard is on high alert with its special disaster relief team, which is ready to provide assistance, rescue, and relief operations. The ministry said, 'As Cyclone Dana is expected to hit the coasts of West Bengal and Odisha on October 24-25, the Coast Guard Region (North-East) has taken several precautionary measures to protect life and property at sea.'
'Fishermen were asked to come ashore'
The Coast Guard has tasked ships, aircraft, and remote operating stations in West Bengal and Odisha to broadcast regular weather warnings and safety advice to fishermen and sailors. The statement said that these alerts are being continuously sent to all fishing vessels, and they are being urged to immediately return to the shore and take safe shelter.
Flight operations were suspended for 16 hours.
Given the cyclonic storm, 'Dana', flight operations at Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar will be suspended for 16 hours from Thursday evening. 190 trains were canceled
Given cyclone Dana, Eastern Railway will not operate 190 local trains in its Sealdah division from 8 pm on Thursday to 10 am on Friday. An official gave this information. This step was taken as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of rail passengers. An Eastern Railway official said that 190 trains will be canceled in Sealdah South and Hasnabad section.
Schools closed
