These sound waves can cause vibrations in the atmosphere. According to the US Geological Survey, the shallower or lesser the earthquake's epicenter, the more energy can reach the surface. High-frequency seismic waves pass through the ground, due to which the sound of thunder is heard during an earthquake. The epicenter of the quake in Delhi was just five kilometers inside the ground, due to which people heard a loud sound.

An earthquake of 4.0 magnitude hit many parts of Delhi-NCR on Monday morning. The National Center for Seismology said that tremors were felt at 5:36 am on Monday. The tremors were so strong that frightened people came out of their homes. Many people woke up from deep sleep. The epicenter of the earthquake was near Durgabai Deshmukh College of Special Education in the Dhaula Kuan area of Delhi.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also tweeted about this incident. He wrote, 'Earthquake tremors were felt in Delhi and surrounding areas. Everyone is told to remain calm and follow safety precautions. Along with this, there is a need to be alert about possible tremors. Officials are keeping a close watch on the situation.'
