Congress is putting in all its efforts to regain its lost political ground in Delhi. Along with fielding strong candidates, Congress leaders are busy cornering the Aam Aadmi Party. AAP is making sharp statements about the leadership. The party's strategists are trying to make the election contest triangular in some way.
Why is Aam Aadmi Party's anxiety increasing?
This is increasing the Aam Aadmi Party's anxiety. It is afraid of the division of anti-BJP votes in case of a triangular contest. This is the reason why AAP leaders are accusing the Congress of helping the BJP.
Before the rise of the Aam Aadmi Party in 2012, there used to be a direct fight between Congress and BJP in Delhi. During this period, except for 1993, Congress did not get less than 40 percent votes in any assembly election.
Congress's seats kept decreasing year after year.
It had a strong support base in slums and Muslim and Scheduled Caste-dominated areas. On the strength of these, Congress remained in power in Delhi for 15 years. Since 2012, these political equations have changed. The strong vote bank of Congress has now gone to AAP.
Congress has already taken out Nyay Yatra in Delhi.
This is the reason why its performance in elections is continuously deteriorating. In 2013, the party's vote percentage fell to 24.55 percent. In the last election, it was less than five percent.
For this reason, the party has not won a single seat in the last two assembly elections. Hence, the party is facing the challenge of improving its performance. State President Devendra Yadav has already taken out Nyay Yatra in the entire Delhi.
Congress has fielded 47 candidates.
Through the selection of candidates, the party is trying to give the message that it is ready to play a decisive role in Delhi politics. 47 candidates have been announced. Sandeep Dixit, son of former Chief Minister Sheila Dixit, has been fielded against AAP convenor and former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
AAP candidates may face a challenge from Congress
Experienced Congress former mayor Farhad Suri has been given a ticket from Jangpura against AAP's other big leader Manish Sisodia. There are preparations to field a strong candidate from Kalkaji against Chief Minister Atishi. Devendra Yadav is in the election fray from Badli. Former minister Asim Ahmed Khan, former MLA Abdul Rehman, and Devendra Sehrawat who joined Congress from AAP have also been given tickets.
Congress leaders putting AAP in the dock.
AAP candidates are likely to get a good challenge from this. Along with being careful in the selection of candidates, Congress leaders are putting AAP in the dock. Corruption allegations have been made by bringing a white paper. Congress National Treasurer Ajay Maken called support to Kejriwal in 2013 making him the Chief Minister and this time the alliance with AAP in the Lok Sabha was a big mistake.
Sandeep Dixit has made this demand by meeting LG...
He has called Kejriwal a traitor and an opportunist. Sandeep Dixit met LG and demanded action against Kejriwal and Atishi by complaining about registration in their announced schemes and misuse of Punjab police in the elections.
Why have AAP leaders become cautious?
Seeing the aggressive attitude of Congress, AAP leaders have also become cautious. Criticizing Maken's statement, they are threatening to expel Congress from INDIAA. They are alleging that BJP is supporting Congress in the elections.
By counterattacking in this way and bringing other leaders of INDIAA in its support, it is trying to prevent the Delhi elections from becoming triangular. AAP has also been successful in getting the support of SP chief Akhilesh Yadav.
