Delhi government launches anti-graft drive

New Delhi, May 1 (IANS) The Delhi government Thursday launched a drive against hoarders, black-marketers and touts in the national capital.

Various teams were formed at the direction of Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung which found gross irregularities in public offices.

"Of the 26 fair price shops, 13 were either shut or found to be diverting foodgrains," said a government official.

The Department of Weights and Measures visited 16 petrol pumps, of which 13 were found to be cheating consumers by dispensing less quantity of fuel.

"The department has initiated prosecution against 13 petrol pumps under the Legal Metrology Act, 2009," the official added.

Touts were found in the zonal offices of the transport department but they managed to escape.

The Directorate of Education carried out surprise inspection in five schools.

"Irregularities in nursery admission process were found as one-two schools were not following the circulars issued by the directorate in this regard," the official said.
