Congress MP Dheeraj Sahu The counting of the notes recovered from the premises of Congress Rajya Sabha member from Jharkhand Dheeraj Sahu was completed on the fifth day on Sunday. The recovered amount is said to be Rs 351 crore. Nine teams of 80 people each from the Income Tax Department and various banks were involved in the count.
Later another team of 200 officials, including security personnel, drivers, and other staff, was involved when tax officials found 10 shelves full of cash at some other locations. Sources said around 200 bags and trunks were used to carry the cash for depositing it in various bank branches in Odisha.
Counting took place in three bank branches
Bhagat Behera, regional manager of SBI in Balangir, said that apart from Balangir, counting of notes was also going on in Sambalpur and Titlagarh branches of SBI. More than 50 employees of the bank and three dozen officers and employees of the Income Tax Department were present in these. 40 machines were installed for counting.
Engineers were also deployed to resolve the problem of machines breaking down during note counting. Behera said that out of 40 machines, notes were counted from 25, and 15 machines were kept as backup. Of the bundle of notes packed in 176 bags, 140 have been accounted for, while the counting of the remaining 36 bags has also been completed. After that, the amount reached Rs 351 crore.
Raids conducted in Jharkhand and Bengal
On Sunday, the Income Tax Department team also raided Sambalpur, Balangir, Titlagarh, Boudh, Sundergarh, Rourkela, and Bhubaneswar in Odisha as well as Ranchi, Lohardaga in Jharkhand and some places in Bengal. In Odisha, assets belonging to Dheeraj's two business managers Rajesh Sahu and Bunty Sahu are also being investigated. Income tax officials are interrogating both managers.
200 crores were received on the first day
On the first day of the raid, more than Rs 200 crore was recovered from the Baldev Sahu Infra Private Limited Company located in the cupboards. At the same time, a huge amount of money was also recovered from the office of Boudh Distilleries Private Limited.
After this, a huge amount of currency notes were recovered from the houses and residences of liquor traders and company officials associated with Sahu at different places in Odisha. The Income Tax Department had started the raid on Boudh Distillery Private Limited and its promoters and close relatives of Sahu on suspicion of illegal transactions in the liquor business and income tax evasion.
