More than 30 thousand units were facing the threat of closure due to non-availability of raw materials. The finished goods were dumped in the units themselves. The prices of vegetables had increased not only in wholesale but also in retail. Now with the end of the strike, the situation will start becoming normal from Wednesday.
Loading and unloading of goods was not done in Chakarpur Mandi and CPC goods warehouse. Every day 50-60 trucks of peas came through loaders and trucks. 10-12 loaders and trucks arrived on Tuesday. Seven-eight trucks of tomatoes arrived. Only one truck of bitter gourd, ladyfinger, and cucumber came from Kolkata. Earlier three to four trucks were coming daily.
Vegetable prices increased due to reduced supply. Carrots were being sold in bulk at Rs 12 per kg. Now it is Rs 20 per kg. The price of peas increased by Rs 16-18 per kg to Rs 22 per kg. Tomato was Rs 10-15 per kg. Which reached Rs 20. Due to the increase in wholesale prices, the price of every vegetable in retail has increased.
Hooliganism, assault on e-rickshaw drivers, indecency with women
Earlier, under the guise of protest, the strike supporters have also started anarchy. Tempo drivers beat up e-rickshaw drivers in Chakeri. There was also misbehavior with women passengers. The glasses of some vehicles were broken. Suraj, a resident of PAC Road, said that he had gone to Lal Bungalow with his wife Anjali, and sister-in-law. No means were found while returning. During this time, even the police, who arrived at the information of the assault on the driver, did not say anything.
Seeing a school child sitting in an e-rickshaw, people protested and beat him up.
On Tuesday afternoon, an e-rickshaw driver was going to drop the children of a private school home on Kalyanpur Panki Road. I will not give them any ride after leaving them. On the other hand, other drivers protested after seeing the rickshaw rider sitting at Panki Road Chungi. After disembarking the ride, he pushed the rickshaw forward. When the e-rickshaw driver protested against alighting the ride, the protesting drivers beat him up and refused to let him board the ride again.
Attempt to block the Ramadevi intersection
On Tuesday, tempo and auto drivers tried to create a jam at the Ramadevi intersection in Kanpur. The police made them understand and calm them down. From Tuesday morning itself, tempo auto drivers started gathering at the Ramadevi intersection in large numbers. With this, people started shouting slogans at the intersection. Chakeri police reached the spot on information. The police instructed them to protest peacefully. Also warned of taking legal action if the law is taken into hands. After which the crowd of drivers left from Ramadevi intersection. Then there was silence at the intersection stands. Along with this, even city buses did not run.
