The Asansol-Durgapur Police Commissionerate reported that the West Bengal Police have arrested the fourth and fifth accused in the alleged Durgapur gang rape case. Police had previously arrested three people in connection with the alleged gang rape. Earlier on Sunday, a local court remanded the three accused in Durgapur, West Bengal, to 10 days of police custody for the alleged rape of a medical student.

A student from Jaleswar, Odisha, was raped by several men in Durgapur. The incident occurred on the medical college campus near Shobhapur. The student had gone out to eat with a male friend outside the college campus. One of the accused forcibly dragged her to a secluded area behind the campus gate and raped her. The remaining accused then committed the heinous act.

Meanwhile, a three-member team led by Odisha State Women's Commission Chairperson Sovana Mohanty will visit Durgapur on Monday and meet the victim's family. The three-member team will submit a report to the Odisha government after inquiring about the victim's treatment and the ongoing investigation into the case in West Bengal.

Sovana Mohanty stated, "We will examine the victim's health and meet with her parents. After inquiring with the West Bengal government about her treatment, her mental health, and whether a proper investigation is being conducted, we will submit our recommendations to the state government. This is a three-member team. We will also inquire about a speedy trial in the case and the arrest of another accused who has not yet been arrested." The Odisha Women's Commission Chairperson further stated, "The Odisha Chief Minister has spoken to the girl's father and the administration."

Bijiani Singh, Senior Regional Officer and Advisor of the Odisha State Women's Commission, said that the three-member team may also meet with the police officers investigating the case and will try to secure justice for the medical student. "We will inquire about her health and the ongoing investigation. We will ensure she receives proper treatment. We may also meet with West Bengal police officials. We will try to ensure she receives justice, and that no one is above the law," he said.
