The Enforcement Directorate has developed a robust mechanism for issuing summons in serious cases like money laundering. Under this, the summons will now be generated electronically. A unique QR code will be affixed to this summons, which can be scanned to verify the genuineness and authenticity of the summons received. When scanned, the QR code takes them to the ED's portal, where the details of the summons can be viewed by entering the passcode mentioned in the summons.

Preparing to crack down on fraudsters

Let us tell you that ED has recently busted an interstate gang, which used to prepare fake summons/notices and threaten high-profile individuals and businessmen. The gang issued forged summons to the Chairman and Director of Nippon Paints, directing them to appear at the Delhi ED office and participate in the proceedings under the PMLA.

The company informed the ED as soon as the fraud was suspected

As soon as the owner of the company suspected the fraud, he brought the matter to the notice of the ED, who contacted the gang and asked them to come to Delhi for talks. After some hesitation, the gang members relented and a team of ED and Delhi Police arrested them including kingpin Akhilesh Mishra. The release said that among the others arrested, Darshan Harish Joshi is also from Mumbai and Devendra Dubey came posing as an ED officer in a car with Government of India stickers.
