Gurgaon, Jan 28 (IANS) Three people, including an engineer, have been arrested here for robbing a car's passengers and taking away their car, police said Wednesday.
Sumit Kumar, 32, a civil engineer, and his two accomplices were arrested for looting the car's passengers at gun point on the Gurgaon-Faridabad road.
His two accomplices have been identified as 35-year-old Devender Kumar and 36-year-old Vilat Mehta.
Sumit and Devender are residents of Rasoolpur village in Delhi. Mehta hails from Nepal but was currently living in a rented accommodation in Rasoolpur.
The trio committed the robbery Tuesday evening near Sector 56 under Sadar police station.
"The trio were arrested from Faridabad late Tuesday night by crime branch (unit-1) chief Yashwant Singh and his team," deputy commissioner of police (crime) Deepak Kumar Saharan told reporters.
The robbed car as well as the car used by the trio, along with a revolver, were recovered from their possession.
They had hatched a plan to rob a bank in Rohtak district of Haryana and intended to abandon the hijacked car after 'using' it.
Police also said that Sumit had taken a construction contract in Delhi and faced severe financial losses. He planned to make up the loss by robbing a bank.
His children study at an upscale private school in Delhi and he was having trouble in even depositing their monthly tution fees.
The arrested are being questioned by the police.
