Firing in Iran's Shia Mosque, 15 dead: More than 40 people injured; ISIS terrorist organization claimed responsibility for the attack

On Wednesday, a shooting took place at a religious site in Shiraz, Iran. 15 people died in the attack. More than 40 people are said to be injured.

 

According to the Iranian news agency IRNA, the incident took place at Shah Cherag, a holy site of the Shia community. Three armed men opened fire here.

A police officer said- Three armed men entered the religious place and started firing. We have arrested two attackers. The third assailant is absconding and is being sought. He said – 15 people were killed including a woman and 2 children.

A person present in the mosque at the time of the incident said – We were preparing to offer Namaz when gunshots were heard. There was chaos among the people. Everyone started running here and there to save their lives. I got shot Blood was coming out. I had to save my life somehow. I got out of there somehow. I did not see who was firing the bullets, but they entered inside firing from the road. Anyone who came in front of him opened fire. I saw people killed and injured, but did not see the attackers.

Initial reports after the attack said that the three unidentified attackers were not Iranian citizens. After this, the terrorist organization ISIS took responsibility for the attack. ISIS issued a statement saying – IS terrorists opened fire in the mosque. 15 people were killed. Many are injured.

 

40th day of Mahsa Amini's death

The attack on the mosque comes at a time when anti-hijab protests are taking place across Iran. These demonstrations began on 16 September. On the same day, 22-year-old Mehsa Amini died in police custody. Mehsa was arrested by the police for not wearing a hijab.

 

A large number of police forces are deployed amidst the demonstrations on the streets, in such a situation, the terrorist attack on the mosque raises many questions about the security of Iran.
