The Orion capsule of the US space agency NASA returned to Earth on Sunday. This capsule entered the atmosphere at a tremendous speed of 40 thousand kilometers per hour. After re-entering the Earth's atmosphere, the capsule landed as per schedule in the Pacific Ocean. The unmanned space capsule orbited the Moon, assessed conditions, and took photographs. The capsule trip was part of NASA's Artemis Lunar Program. This program has been started 50 years after the Apollo spacecraft landed on the surface of the Moon. The teardrop-shaped Orion capsule carried three human-sized mannequins into space. Sensors were tied to these mannequins through wires.

Learn more about the Moon

Passing through areas of extremely high and low temperatures, the capsule landed in the Pacific Ocean at 9.40 a.m. American time on Sunday. The capsule landed near Mexico's Baja California Peninsula. More information regarding the moon will be collected by studying the pictures of the cameras and the data of the sensors. Along with this, it will be seen to what extent astronauts can return safely after traveling to remote areas. According to NASA official Rab Navias, with this study, we will be able to know more about the Moon and get closer to it.

Withstands temperatures twice the heat of melting iron

The Orion capsule was successful in reaching the far side of the Moon. This distance is 4,34,500 km from the earth. On Sunday morning, when the capsule entered the Earth's atmosphere at a fierce speed of 40 thousand kilometers per hour, the breath of the scientists sitting in the control room of NASA stopped for a few moments. This is the time when the capsule or any spacecraft passes through extreme temperatures. The Orion capsule endured a temperature of 2,760 degrees Celsius during this period.

This was about twice the temperature at which iron was melted. But Orion was successful in coming back to earth after facing him. Orion was launched on 16 November from the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida, USA. It returned on December 11 after completing its mission of 25 days. It was sent into space by the most powerful rocket ever.
