New Delhi, March 25 (IANS) The Congress on Wednesday stood by former prime minister Manmohan Singh who moved the Supreme Court challenging a special court order that summoned him as accused in the coal scam.
"We support him fully in this endeavour... We (the party) have stood by him fully and comprehensively," said party spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi.
Manmohan Singh moved the apex court on Wednesday, challenging the summons issued by special court judge Bharat Parashar on March 11 over the allocation of Talabira II coal block in Odisha to Kumar Mangalam Birla-owned Hindalco in 2005.
Describing the order as "legally challengeable and untenable", Singhvi said: "While we respect the court process, proper hierarchical recourse will be taken, in this case making an appeal in the Supreme Court. And we have no doubt justice will be done.
Manmohan Singh's appeal is likely to be mentioned for an early hearing on Thursday.
