The central government said in the Supreme Court on Friday that the proposal between the government and the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) to give an extra chance to civil service candidates affected by Covid-19 is ongoing.
Earlier, in October in the Supreme Court on behalf of the government said that the matter of giving additional opportunities is being considered. When the Civil Services Examination 2021 guidelines are set, the appropriate authority will keep this in mind.
Significantly, the UPSC candidates had filed a petition in the Supreme Court demanding that because of the status of Covid-19, they should also be allowed to appear in the Civil Services Examination to be held in 2021. The Supreme Court had sought an answer from the Central Government on this. The petition was filed by 24 candidates.
The petition said that this opportunity of extra attachment can be given only once, keeping in mind the Covid-19. It is to be noted that this time many candidates who appear for the exam will exceed the maximum age limit for the Civil Services Examination next year. According to age rules, he will not be able to appear in the 2021 Civil Services Examination.
Lakhs of candidates had appeared in the Civil Services Preliminary Examination held on October 4. On September 30, the Supreme Court refused to postpone the civil service examination. The court asked the Center to consider giving another chance to those who are not able to take the exam due to the global epidemic, this time is the last opportunity to take the UPSC exam. The court rejected the petition urging the 2020 UPSC Civil Services Examination to be conducted along with the 2021 examination.
The plea of the UPSC was accepted by the Supreme Court. The UPSC had said that postponing the exam would have an impact on next year's exam as well. The court said that it is not possible to conduct this year's examination jointly with the next year's examination. The Commission expressed its inability to postpone the examination.
Significantly, UPSC prepares in three phases every year to select officers for civil services like Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Indian Police Service (IPS), Indian Revenue Service (IRS). , Conducts main and interview civil service examination. About 8 lakh youth sit in this recruitment exam every year. Currently, the minimum age limit for this recruitment examination is 21 years and the maximum of 32 years. SC, ST candidates are exempted for five years and OBCs by three years. Graduates from any stream can apply for it.
