With the increase in the number of corona cases in the country, the fear of the third wave is increasing, an example of this is Gaunar village of Gorakhpur district. This village of Chauri-Chaura area had seen such a dreadful scene of death during the second wave last year that now with the sound of the third wave, panic has spread in the streets here.
130 people died in 60 days during the second wave in the village. During that time many houses were locked. Now with the increasing number of cases again, many more families have left the village with their homes locked. Shopkeepers have imposed an undeclared lockdown and people are coming out of their homes only when necessary.
Earth was raised from every village during the second wave
The total population of village Gaonar of Sardarnagar block of Chauri-Chaura is about 15 thousand. There is a total of 18 tolas in the village. In the second wave of Corona, there is not a single village left in this village where 2-3 earth has not arisen. During the second wave, there were more than 40 deaths in the village within 20 days.
According to the villagers, 130 deaths occurred here within 60 days. Due to this orgy of deaths, people were so scared that many families left the village itself. At that time the commissioner had to camp here with the entire administrative staff and the team of the health department. Yet the panic is such that many people who went at that time have not returned even today. Today the situation is that 40 to 50 houses of the village are locked.
Streets are deserted, undeclared lockdown on shops
Morning or afternoon, there is silence in this village. The chaupal from the village garden to the pond has been closed. Children's play in the streets of the village also stopped. Most of the shopkeepers themselves have imposed lockdown. There was nothing to be seen outside the house except the cattle. People here are coming out of their homes only when necessary. Only a few people are seen here working in the fields or coming and going.
The stove was not lit for months, there was no place to tie the pot on the tree
Even today the villagers have not forgotten the fear of the second wave of Corona. It is said that even today he remembers the day when even the stove was not lit in this village for months. Such havoc of death was seen that half the people were at home and half were at the crematorium. Krishna Pratap, a resident of the village, says that more than 50 families had left the village at the same time due to the fear of second-wave deaths.
Aamna Khatoon of the village says that we have seen such devastation here, which can never be forgotten. At the same time, Arvind Kumar says that there is a peepal tree near the village pond. There so many pots were tied together for the rites of death in the village that even the branch of the tree was broken. There was a famine even for wood for cremation.
Anger at the administration... after the second wave, there was no cleaning
There is also anger among the villagers about the administrative and health system. They say that after the end of the second wave, neither the village was cleaned nor sprayed. Pradhan somehow got the people vaccinated by setting up a camp. But it is insufficient.
Vaccination is being done by setting up a special camp, DM will now send a team
On the situation in Gaunar village, DM Vijay Kiran Anand said that if it is so, then it is a serious matter. There is a need for awareness about Corona, but leaving home for this is not an option. A team will be formed and sent to know the status of the village. By directing the concerned department, instructions have been given to take special care in this village. Emphasis is also being laid on vaccination by setting up special camps in the village.
