Government On Rashmika Mandanna Deepfake Controversy: Rashmika Mandanna recently came into the limelight for her Deepfake video. The actress had informed through social media that one of her videos was going viral, which is deepfake. Rashmika Mandanna had also taken legal action. At the same time, the government has taken a strict stance in such matters.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has issued an advisory. In which all social media platforms were told that they would have to remove any kind of deep fake or morphed video on the internet within 24 hours of receiving the complaint, otherwise action can be taken against them.

According to the news of news agency ANI, companies like top social media platforms Instagram, X, and Facebook have been directed to remove deepfake and morphed content from their platforms within 24 hours of receiving the complaint. If this is not done, action will be taken against the platform under IT rules.
What punishment will be given for fraud?
In the advisory, punishment has also been fixed against those who commit such fraud. According to reports, those found committing fraud using computer resources under Section 66D of the IT Act, 2000 can face imprisonment of up to three years and a fine of up to Rs 1 lakh.

Minister of State for Electronics and IT Rajeev Chandrashekhar reacted to Mandanna's deepfake video on Twitter on Monday. He said that social media companies are obliged to remove any misinformation. Rajeev Chandrashekhar said, “Under the IT Rules, 2021, it is a legal obligation for online platforms to prevent the spread of misinformation by any user. The platform must take action if it receives an order from a user or government authority to remove such content. If the company fails to do so, then Rule 7 will be invoked, which gives aggrieved persons the right to approach the court under the provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC)."

He further added, “Platforms must take proactive steps to combat this menace. For those who find themselves affected by deepfakes, I urge you to file an FIR at your nearest police station and follow the instructions given under the Information Technology (IT) Rules.” I encourage you to take advantage of the measures taken.”
