Hawaii's Maunaloa volcano has begun to erupt. Ashes and debris from this explosion are falling into the surrounding areas. Officials have warned residents living on the island to be ready to evacuate their homes as soon as possible if lava flows start moving toward populated areas. Due to the danger posed by the lava, residents have been advised to stay away from the surrounding areas of the volcano.
Harmful gases coming out of the volcano
Since the eruption of the volcano located in Maunaloa, Hawaii, sulfur dioxide gases are coming out of it, which are very harmful to the people. Dr. Libby Char, director of the state health department, said air quality on the Big Island is generally good right now, but officials are monitoring it carefully. Hone said air quality could deteriorate as long as the eruption lasts.
Bobby Camara, a lifelong Big Island resident who lives in Volcano Village, said everyone across the island should keep an eye on the eruption. He is said to have seen three Maunalao eruptions in his lifetime.
