Heavy rain alert in Andhra, Odisha- Bengal, schools closed... When and where will Cyclone Montha hit?

Cyclone Montha is expected to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by the evening or night of October 28 and cross the Andhra Pradesh coast between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced on Monday.

 

The Meteorological Department stated that a deep depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal intensified into a cyclonic storm on October 26. It will further intensify into a severe cyclonic storm on October 28. Let's find out the details:

 

When and where will Cyclone Montha make landfall?

The cyclone is expected to make landfall near Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, about 200 km from Malkangiri, Odisha. Wind speeds could reach 100 kmph. The impending disaster will impact 15 districts, eight of which are expected to experience heavy rainfall and strong winds.

 

Additionally, Cyclone Montha is expected to cause heavy to very heavy rainfall in Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, and Tamil Nadu from October 27 to 30.

 

According to the Meteorological Department's forecast, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in the following areas:

Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Mahe: October 27–28

 

Coastal Karnataka: October 26–28

 

Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam: October 26–30

 

Telangana and Odisha: October 27–30

 

Chhattisgarh: October 27–30

 

These areas will be affected by the storm:

Andhra Pradesh: Kakinada, Visakhapatnam, Machilipatnam

 

Odisha: Impact near Gopalpur

 

Tamil Nadu: Away from Chennai, but caution advised
