Amid the T20 World Cup, social media influencer Princy Parikh faced online trolling and serious threats. She deleted her viral Instagram reel with South African cricketer David Miller after receiving a large number of offensive messages and rape threats.
Making a reel with David Miller proved costly for RJ Princy Parikh.
This reel was posted after the India vs. South Africa match.
In that match, David Miller scored a brilliant half-century, leading his team to victory, and India suffered its first defeat of the tournament. In the video, Princy Parikh was seen circling around Miller while slow-clapping. She created it as a humorous take on cricket rivalry.
She captioned the video, "What a player David Miller is!" The text within the video read, "I thought we were friends, David!" The reel quickly went viral.
While many users took the video as a lighthearted gesture, some reacted sharply. According to Prini, the matter wasn't limited to criticism; she also received graphic and horrific threats. She wrote in an Instagram story that she was mentally disturbed by the hundreds of body-shaming comments and offensive messages.
Prini stated that she would file a police complaint in this matter. She also hinted that the usernames of the people who threatened her could be made public, so that society can understand that the identities of those who abuse online should not remain hidden. This issue has sparked a new debate on social media trolling and online harassment.
Irfan Praises Miller and Brewis
Meanwhile, former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan praised South Africa's composed batting. He said on his YouTube channel, "South Africa lost three wickets, Bumrah was bowling brilliantly at the time, but then Miller showed his experience. The experience of playing in six World Cups was clearly visible." He scored a half-century just when the team needed him most.
Pathan described Dewald Brewis' 45-run innings as decisive. He said, "Brewis' 45-run innings was crucial. Without that partnership, South Africa would not have won the match. He showed patience in the beginning and then gave the team stability."
