Controversy is increasing over the wearing of hijab by girls in schools and colleges in Karnataka. In Udupi, on Tuesday morning, girl students wearing hijab started protesting in the college. In response, students wearing saffron dupatta came in front of him. There was heavy shooting from both sides. After this, the college professors took over the matter. Today, the matter is also to be heard in the Karnataka High Court.
The controversy over the hijab in Karnataka started on January 1. Here in Udupi, 6 Muslim girl students were barred from sitting in the classroom in the college for wearing the hijab. The college management had cited the new uniform policy as the reason. After this these girls filed a petition in the Karnataka High Court. The girls argue that not allowing them to wear the hijab is a violation of their fundamental right under Articles 14 and 25 of the Constitution.
How did hijab vs saffron started?
28 Muslim girl students of Kundapura College in Karnataka were stopped from attending class wearing a hijab. Regarding the matter, the girls had filed a petition in the High Court saying that the hijab is mandatory in Islam, so they should be allowed it. These girls had also started dharna sitting in front of the college gate.
In response to girls wearing hijabs, some Hindu organizations asked boys to wear saffron shawls on the college campus. At the same time, Shri Ram Sena in Hubli had said that those who are demanding burqa or hijab can go to Pakistan. The question was also raised whether an attempt is being made to make India Pakistan or Afghanistan by wearing hijab?
Two days holiday in two colleges to stop the dispute
Seeing the controversy escalating, two colleges in Vijayapura, Karnataka, Shanteshwara PU, and GRB College, have been given a holiday for two days, while the college in Udupi was allowed to wear hijab. On the other hand, the Government PU College of Kundapura on Monday allowed Muslim girl students to wear hijab to the campus, but also enforced the rule that they would sit in a separate class. These girls were protesting outside the college gate every day from the beginning to the end of the college.
