Rejecting the demand for a CBI inquiry into the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, the Supreme Court has advised not to politicize the matter. The observation was made by the Supreme Court while hearing two petitions, one of which was filed by the father of gangster Lawrence Vishnoi. A bench of Justices Ajay Rastogi and Abhay Oka said, 'For us all parties are equal. We think that there is no place for political parties in such matters. It doesn't matter who belongs to which party. The doors of this court are open to anyone at all times, but the matter should not be given a political color.
In the last week of May, Sidhu Moosewala was attacked in Jawaharke village of Mansa district of Punjab. He was surrounded by miscreants and opened fire and he died on the spot due to bullets fired. In this case, the police have also made gangster Lawrence Bishnoi an accused who is currently in custody. Sidhu Moosewala was also a Congress leader whose security was withdrawn along with another 400 people. An application seeking a CBI inquiry into the matter was also filed by BJP leader Jagjit Singh. Apart from this, Bishnoi's father Lavinder Singh had also applied.
Court said, why are you politicizing the matter
While hearing the application, the bench said, "Punjab Police is probing the matter. Why are you politicizing it.' Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, appearing for the Punjab government, said that Lawrence Bishnoi has 57 cases of murder and ransom registered against him. Even after this, his father has challenged the arrest warrant received by the Punjab Police. Singhvi said, 'We have information that he was in touch with international shooters so that Singer could be killed. So we want to keep him in custody to investigate the matter. Now they say that they cannot be taken into custody on the arrest warrant.
Lawrence's father expressed fear of an encounter
Lawrence Bishnoi's father said in his application that my son is in danger in custody and the police can encounter him. Lavinder Singh said in court that there is a threat to the safety of my son. We have come to know that he is being taken to Amritsar. The court should ensure his safety.
