US President Donald Trump has made a shocking announcement. He said that the US has signed a major trade deal with Pakistan. Under this, both countries will jointly develop 'huge oil reserves' in Pakistan.
Earlier, Trump had said about tariffs on India that India is a friendly country. However, he had denied any relief from tariffs.
Now Trump is talking about an oil deal with Pakistan. He also said that perhaps one day Pakistan will sell oil to India. However, it is not clear which oil reserves Trump is talking about.
'Will develop huge oil reserves together with Pakistan'
Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social, "We have signed an agreement with Pakistan. Under this, Pakistan and the US will jointly develop their huge oil reserves."
He also said that it is still being decided which oil company will lead this partnership. Pakistan currently imports oil from the Middle East to meet its energy needs.
But according to some reports, Pakistan has huge oil reserves in the sea. These have not been used yet due to technical deficiencies and a lack of funds. Pakistan is trying to raise investment to develop these reserves. Trump joked, "Who knows, maybe one day Pakistan will sell oil to India."
There has been no official statement from Pakistan on this agreement yet.
Trump turned his back on the deal after talking about friendship.
Trump's announcement has come at a time when he has announced to impose a 25 percent tariff (import duty) on India. This tariff will apply to all things coming from India. Along with this, India will also be fined extra for buying military equipment and energy from Russia. Trump described India's trade policies as "strict and objectionable".
Trump said that America is in talks with India. He said, "We are talking to India right now. India's tariff is the highest in the world."
Trump also said that the White House is very busy with trade agreements, and he will also meet the trade team of South Korea. India responded to Trump's statement by saying that it is considering the statement.
India said, "We have been negotiating with the US for the last few months for a fair, balanced, and mutually beneficial trade agreement. We are committed to this goal."
