Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has said on Tuesday that if Pakistan does not increase exports, then it will have to go to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a loan.
Pakistan is currently going through many changes to take a loan from IMF and opposition parties say that Imran Khan has surrendered to IMF.
On Tuesday, the Pakistani Prime Minister said that exports and tax collection are very important to strengthen the economy. Imran Khan said that his government is paying attention to both these things.
Imran Khan was addressing the opening ceremony of the 14th International Chambers Summit organized by Rawalpindi Chambers of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) on Tuesday. The Pakistani PM said that his government is planning to lease land to businessmen cheaply so that industries can be set up.
praise of Pakistan for corona
Imran Khan repeatedly talks about making Pakistan a princely state of Medina. He mentioned it once again on Tuesday. Imran Khan said, "It was the best model in the world. Allama Iqbal used to say that whenever a Muslim has fallen and stood up, it has happened only based on Islamic principles. These principles came from the princely state of Medina. When there is no law and order in a country, there is no justice.
Imran Khan said, "No government in the history of Pakistan has faced such a huge revenue deficit and current account deficit. If our friends China, UAE, and Saudi Arabia had not given the funds, we would have defaulted. We did not have money to pay off the debt. There were no dollars to save the rupee from falling. Meanwhile, the Covid epidemic knocked. We were already facing financial difficulties then.
Imran Khan praised his government for coming out of the Covid crisis and gave an example of the horrors of the epidemic in India. The Pakistani Prime Minister said, "The way Allah brought us out of Covid is praised all over the world. We also saved our economy and also saved the lives of our people. Let's see what havoc Covid has caused in the world. India is so far ahead of us, but its growth rate has gone down. In India, someone tells Covid that 10 lakh died, someone says that 30 lakh died. Look at us how much work Allah has done.
The Pakistani Prime Minister said, "I made many such decisions which are now being done by Boris Johnson in England. If I had done the lockdown, you would have seen today what would have been the situation inside the country. There was a lot of pressure on me to do the lockdown. After that, inflation increased.
"The whole world is in trouble due to inflation. Boris Johnson's MPs are besieging the price of gas. The entire supply chain has been disrupted. Steel, gas, coal, and palm oil all became expensive. Despite this, Pakistan is cheap. If you look at the price of petrol and diesel from India, it is very less in Pakistan.
Imran Khan said, "Two things are very important for the economy of Pakistan. One is export and the other is tax collection. To increase exports, I am holding daily meetings and working on removing all the hurdles in this industry. There were too many obstacles."
"We have never given importance to exports. We didn't even emphasize it. Our government will give all kinds of help on exports. If we do not increase exports, we will again be stuck with IMF. If exports are not increased, the current account deficit will increase and the rupee will come under pressure. In such a situation, we will have to go to the IMF again.
Imran Khan said, "Pakistan is far behind in tax collection. We don't have a tax culture here. People don't trust the system. People will feel that tax is in the interest of the country, then people will start paying tax. We have to develop a tax culture. If people's tax money is spent on the rulers, then no one will pay tax. If we spend tax money honestly, then people will be encouraged to pay tax.
"Pakistan cannot become a modern economy without creating a tax culture. There are difficulties for two-three months, they will go away. There is a huge potential for tourism in Pakistan but it was never noticed. We never paid any attention to IT. Why didn't Pakistan give? We have to fix them."
