India's star cricketer Virat Kohli is known for his fitness. Since Kohli's arrival in Team India, other players around the world got a lesson in staying fit. The effect of Kohli's fitness is also seen in his fielding and he is considered one of the best fielders in India. Also, his running between the wickets is excellent. Kohli is also adept at converting one run into two. This is something former India captain MS Dhoni had mastered.
Dhoni was also considered the fastest in running between the wickets. In his international career, Dhoni was run out only 26 times in 538 matches including all three formats. When Dhoni used to run between the wickets, even the commentators used to be surprised. However, in the eyes of Virat Kohli, Dhoni is not the fastest player to run between the wickets. According to him, he has played with a faster cricketer than Dhoni.
De Villiers best according to Kohli
In a show with former Royal Challengers Bangalore cricketer AB de Villiers in South Africa and IPL, Kohli was asked who according to him has been the fastest runner? To this Kohli replied – AB de Villiers. The Indian batsman said – I have been asked this question before as well. AB is the fastest of all the players I have run between the wickets with. Apart from him, the only person with whom I have so much coordination and understanding between the wickets is MS (Dhoni). I don't know about speed, but AB and MS, they both wouldn't even need to call me.
De Villiers told Duplessis the best
When AB de Villiers was asked the same question, he picked compatriot Faf Duplessis. De Villiers said – My being on this list is also controversial. However, Duplessis has been my quickest partner between the wickets, so much so that Faf has run me out at least seven times in my career. We have some misunderstandings. During the chat, Kohli was also asked about the 'worst runner' to run between the wickets. Kohli took the name of Cheteshwar Pujara in this.
Kohli told Pujara the worst runner
Explaining his decision to pick Pujara, Kohli said- It was the moment of the Centurion Test match in 2018. Pujara was run out in both innings. When Pujara was run out in the first innings of the Centurion Test, I said 'it's okay', such things happen in cricket. In the second innings, Cheteshwar Pujara played the shot and called Parthiv Patel for the third run. Pujara himself was running towards the dangerous end and he was run out again and that too by a huge margin. When the replays were shown on the screen, Pujara was nowhere to be seen in the screen, only Quinton de Kock was seen removing the bails. I thought you were run out in the first innings and how can you show so much courage in the second innings? I was surprised. Pujara's run call was the worst call I have ever seen.
