IND vs AUS Test: Australia gets a shock before the Adelaide day-night test, Hazelwood is out, but these two bowlers get a chance

The Australian team has suffered a major setback ahead of the second Test to be played in Adelaide on December 6. Fast bowler Josh Hazlewood has been ruled out of this match due to injury. The second Test will be a day-night match and Hazlewood could have proved to be lethal due to his line length. However, now his exclusion will cause a lot of damage to the Australian team. This is the first time that Hazlewood will miss a Test match against India at home since the beginning of his career.

At the same time, this will also be the first time (in Adelaide) after the India-Australia match played in Sydney in 2015, when Australia will take the field in a Border Gavaskar Trophy Test at home without any one of Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon. Before the Adelaide Test, both were part of nine consecutive Test matches against India. Two uncapped pacers have been included in the Australian team in place of Hazlewood. All-rounders Sean Abbott and Brandon Doggett have been included in the squad.

Both Abbott and Doggett have been selected for the team based on impressive performances in the Sheffield Shield. Abbott, who has been part of the Test squad for some time, took four wickets for 71 runs in 16 overs against Tasmania at the Sydney Cricket Ground in the last round of the Sheffield Shield. He has 261 first-class wickets to his name. At the same time, Doggett recently won a fifer against Western Australia. With this, his number of wickets in three Sheffield Shield matches increased to 11. He also bowled the best of his career by taking six wickets for 15 runs in an unofficial match against India A in Mackay.

Both uncapped fast bowlers have been part of the Australian Test team before, but never got a chance to play. Doggett was part of the Australian team in the match played in the UAE during the series against Pakistan in 2018 and Abbott during the home series against India in 2020-21. He was also a part of the Australian squad during the Ashes last year. Earlier, Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh also got injured. Pace bowling all-rounder Beau Webster was included in his place as cover.

Australian team for the second Test: Pat Cummins (captain), Scott Boland, Alex Carey (wicketkeeper), Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Nathan McSweeney, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Mitchell Marsh (subject to fitness), Beau Webster, Sean Abbott and Brandon Doggett.
