The actor said, "I hope to start working on it this year. Like the Oscar-winning Lord of the Rings trilogy, Mahabharata will be a multi-film adaptation. It will take some time as scripting will take a few years." However, Aamir expressed confidence that fans can see this project starting this year. On the question of acting in the film himself, Aamir has not yet decided whether he will act in this film or not. He says that we will see who is suitable for which role.

I don't think you can tell Mahabharata in one film, so it will be in many films. I am looking at it on a large scale. Since it will come out in many parts, it is too early to say whether I will direct it or not. I think we may need many directors."
