IND vs BAN: Big blow to India before first ODI, Mohammed Shami out of entire series against Bangladesh

India's experienced fast bowler Mohammed Shami has been ruled out of the ODI series against Bangladesh tour due to a hand injury. The three-match ODI series will begin on Sunday at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur. Shami was part of both the ODI and Test squads and was set to represent the fast bowling in Jasprit Bumrah's absence, but the pacer did not travel with the Indian team to Bangladesh on 1 December due to an injury.

On the condition of anonymity, a senior BCCI source in the know of the matter told PTI, “Mohammed Shami has a hand injury which happened after he started training after the T20 World Cup in Australia. He has been asked to report to the NCA and has not traveled with the team on December 1. PTI on conditions of anonymity.

The team includes four fast bowlers

Shami was given a break from the limited overs tour of New Zealand after a busy T20 World Cup along with other senior players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul. Four fast bowlers in Team India, Mohammad Siraj, Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur, Deepak Chahar, and young Kuldeep Sen have gone on the Bangladesh tour. It is unlikely that the BCCI will send any other bowler in place of Shami for the three-match series.

Shami's absence can be missed in a Test match

However, if his injury is serious and he is unable to take part in the two-match Test series starting on December 14, then some other bowler can be given a chance. "Shami's absence from the three ODIs is certainly a factor, but the bigger concern is his possible absence in the Tests, where he has to lead the bowling in Jasprit Bumrah's absence," the source said.

The Indian team is currently in Mirpur. Friday was their first training session in which the players did net practice. This series is being seen as a preparation for the ODI World Cup to be held in India next year. In the recently concluded three-match ODI series in New Zealand, Shikhar Dhawan led India in the absence of skipper Rohit and vice-captain Rahul.
