The IPL 2024 season is now slowly reaching its final stage where all the teams are trying their best to reach the playoffs. The top two teams Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Rajasthan Royals are in a comfortable position with 16 points each and it is almost certain that they will enter the last four. The real competition is for the third and fourth positions for which the teams are working hard. Like every season, this time too the lower-ranked teams are spoiling the calculations of others, and something similar was seen during the match between Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad on Monday. In this match, Mumbai made the race for the playoffs interesting by defeating Hyderabad.
Suryakumar did wonders
Sunrisers Hyderabad scored 173 runs after losing eight wickets in 20 overs. In response, Suryakumar, who was included in the Indian team selected for the T20 World Cup, performed brilliantly for Mumbai in this match. He faced 51 balls and scored 102 runs. During this period, Suryakumar played a brilliant partnership with Tilak Verma and both the batsmen took the Hyderabad bowlers to task. Thanks to the excellent performance of Suryakumar, Mumbai scored 174 runs after losing three wickets in 17.2 overs and won the match by seven wickets.
Hyderabad remains in fourth position despite the defeat
With this win, Mumbai has moved from 10th to ninth position in the points table. Now the team has eight points in its account. At the same time, the net run rate has become -0.212. Apart from this, Sunrisers Hyderabad remains in fourth position with 12 points from 11 matches with six wins and five losses. Although the Hyderabad team is present in the top four, the defeat against Mumbai has pushed it on the back foot. Hyderabad will now have to win two out of three matches at any cost. Hyderabad's net run rate has become -0.065 which is a matter of concern for them. Chennai Super Kings, which is in third place with 12 points after 11 matches, has a net run rate of +0.700 which is a matter of relief for them.
There is competition between Hyderabad, Lucknow and CSK
There is mainly competition between Hyderabad, Lucknow, and CSK for the third and fourth places. These three teams have played 11 matches so far and all three have 12-12 points. CSK has a better net run rate compared to Hyderabad and Lucknow. For all three teams, victory is necessary to stay in the race for the playoffs. KKR has three matches to play, while Rajasthan has four matches left. If both these teams win even one match, they will officially reach the playoffs. The net run rate of Rajasthan and KKR is also better than other teams and if these two teams do not face big defeats then it will not be easy for any team to reach their level. Even for Delhi, which is in sixth place, the possibilities are not completely exhausted. Delhi is in sixth place with 10 points after 11 matches with five wins and if it wants to move ahead in the race, it will have to win all its matches.
The road to Delhi is not easy
Just winning all its matches will not be everything for Delhi to remain in the race for the playoffs. He will have to hope that the teams of Hyderabad, Lucknow, and CSK do not achieve much success. Delhi will also have to take care of its net run rate. In the current situation, the path to reach the playoffs does not seem easy for Delhi and its chances of going further are less than 15 percent. Delhi has to face Rajasthan today. If Rajasthan is successful in winning this match, then it will become the first team to reach the playoffs this season, while the road ahead will become even more difficult for Delhi. In such a situation, Hyderabad and CSK will benefit.
Doors closed for RCB, Punjab, Mumbai and Gujarat
Currently, there is competition among six teams to reach the playoffs, but the doors to teams like RCB, Punjab, Mumbai, and Gujarat are closed. T20 cricket is a game of complete equations and there are always possibilities for everyone, but for these four teams, reaching the top four is equivalent to chewing iron grams and the chances of these four teams reaching the playoffs are not even five percent. Not there. However, these teams can spoil the mathematics of others.
