The Indian team, led by Suryakumar Yadav, maintained its unbeaten run in the Asia Cup, defeating arch-rivals Pakistan for the second time in eight days. After the group stage, India defeated Pakistan in the Super Four stage as well, winning the match by six wickets. India won the toss and elected to bowl first. Pakistan scored 171 for five in 20 overs, thanks to a half-century from Sahibzada Farhan. In reply, Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill gave India a strong start, sharing a century partnership for the first wicket. India won the match by scoring 174 for four in 18.5 overs.
Pakistan Can't Stand Up To India
This victory confirms that Pakistan is invincible against India. In the last seven matches between the two teams across all formats, Pakistan has not defeated India even once. India defeated Pakistan by six wickets in the Super Four stage of the Asia Cup and by seven wickets in the group stage. Previously, the team had won by six wickets in the Champions Trophy, while last year they defeated their arch-rivals by six runs in the T20 World Cup. Pakistan also lost to India by seven wickets in the 2023 ODI World Cup, while India won by 228 runs in the 2023 Asia Cup. Furthermore, when India and Pakistan faced each other in the 2022 T20 World Cup, India won the match by four wickets.
Gill-Abhishek's Century Partnership
Abhishek batted brilliantly for India, scoring 74 runs in 39 balls, including six fours and five sixes. He and Gill shared a 105-run partnership for the first wicket, the first 100-plus partnership for any wicket for any team in the current tournament. Chasing the target against Pakistan, Abhishek and Gill gave India a quick start. India scored 69 runs without loss during the power play. It was a relief for India that Shubman Gill, who had struggled to score runs in the current tournament, performed well in this match. The partnership between Gill and Abhishek was broken by Faheem Ashraf, who dismissed Gill. Ashraf bowled Gill, who missed out on a half-century. Gill finished with 47 runs off 28 balls, including eight fours.
Tilak Hits the Winning Four
After Gill's dismissal, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav was dismissed without scoring. Shortly thereafter, Abrar Ahmed ended Abhishek Sharma's innings, giving India their third blow. Tilak Verma and Sanju Samson steadied the innings, taking the score past 150. Haris Rauf dismissed Sanju Samson, giving India their fourth blow. Samson came in to bat at number five but was dismissed for 13 runs off 17 balls, including one four. Tilak and Hardik Pandya then prevented Pakistan from making any breakthroughs, and Tilak hit the winning four. Tilak remained unbeaten on 30 off 19 balls with the help of two fours and two sixes, and Hardik remained unbeaten on seven off seven balls with the help of one four.
India's Poor Fielding
The Indian team displayed poor fielding in the Super Four stage match against Pakistan in the Asia Cup. While India had performed strongly in the previous match against their arch-rivals, their fielding performance in this match was disappointing. Pakistan's batsmen, especially opener Sahibzada Farhan, took full advantage of this and scored a half-century. India dropped a total of four catches in this match against Pakistan. The first catch came in the very first over of the innings when Abhishek Sharma dropped a simple catch of Farhan off Hardik Pandya's bowling. Farhan had not even opened his account at the time. The second opportunity came on the fourth ball of the fifth over when Farhan was on 16 off Kuldeep Yadav's bowling and failed to catch the ball despite having it in his hand. The third life was again given by Abhishek Sharma, who dropped Farhan's catch off the third ball of the eighth over. Farhan's score was 39 at the time. He took full advantage of this life and reached his half-century off 34 balls. Farhan then waved his bat in the air and made a gun gesture. The fourth dropped catch came on the fifth ball of the 19th over when Shubman Gill dropped Faheem Ashraf. These four chances allowed Pakistan to post a challenging total.
Bumrah Failed to Shine on Return
Indian team's experienced fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah proved very expensive against Pakistan. He conceded 34 runs in just three overs. India had brought Bumrah back into the playing XI for the Super Four match in the Asia Cup, but he was expensive in this match. Bumrah conceded 45 runs in his four-over spell, without a single wicket. Bumrah conceded runs at an economy rate of 11.20 during this period. For Pakistan, Sahibzada Farhan scored 58 runs off 45 balls with the help of five fours and three sixes, while Sam Ayub scored 21, Mohammad Nawaz 21, Fakhar Zaman 15, and Hussain Talat 10. Meanwhile, Faheem Ashraf remained unbeaten on 20 and captain Salman Agha 17. For India, Shivam Dube took two wickets, while Hardik Pandya and Kuldeep Yadav took one wicket each.
