Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated on Thursday that Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives have requested supplies of petroleum products from India. While supplying petroleum products to any country, India will also take its own energy requirements into consideration.
The ongoing conflict in West Asia is causing persistent disruptions to global fuel supplies. Bangladesh is facing a severe shortage of petrol and diesel. It has already received diesel supplies from India and has requested additional supplies.
Jaiswal noted, "India is a major exporter of petroleum products, particularly to its neighboring countries. In partnership with the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation, we have been supplying diesel to Bangladesh via waterways, rail, and the India-Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline."
Before supplying to Bangladesh, India will take into account its own diesel availability and refining capacity. India's own domestic requirements will also be kept in mind. We have received similar requests from Sri Lanka and the Maldives as well.
Government sources stated on Wednesday that the supply of diesel to Bangladesh through the India-Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline is part of the ongoing regular energy trade between the two nations.
The India-Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline is currently supplying diesel to Bangladesh on a commercial basis from the Numaligarh Refinery Limited in Assam.
