The humiliating defeat against India has rocked Pakistani cricket. Disgusted by the team's poor performance, former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has advised the selectors and management to teach a tough lesson. Speaking on a Pakistani TV show, Afridi said that it's time to trust the youth instead of big names. He advised dropping his son-in-law, Shaheen Afridi, Babar Khan, and Shadab Khan from the team after the defeat against India.
Shahid Afridi's anger erupted
Surprisingly, Shahid Afridi didn't take sides. He stated clearly that if the decision were in his hands, he would have dropped his son-in-law, Shaheen Shah Afridi, as well. Afridi said,
If I had to make the decision, I would have dropped Shaheen, Babar, and Shadab. I would have given the new players a chance and boosted their confidence by playing them in matches like the one against Namibia. - Shahid Afridi
Afridi believes that the Pakistan team is repeatedly betting on the same players who aren't living up to expectations. He questioned whether these senior players have had plenty of opportunities, and now change is necessary. These players aren't performing in big matches. What's the harm in playing youngsters sitting on the bench? When seniors aren't delivering, junior players should be tried.
Shaheen, Shadab, and Babar all failed.
In the match against India, Shaheen Afridi bowled just two overs but conceded 31 runs and took just one wicket. Shadab Khan bowled just one over and conceded 17 runs. He managed to score just 14 runs. Furthermore, Babar Azam, a key member of the Pakistani batting order, was dismissed cheaply, scoring just five runs.
