After going through a difficult time in her personal life, Indian women's cricket team opener Smriti Mandhana made a remarkable comeback on Sunday, achieving a significant milestone. Mandhana's wedding to music composer Palash Muchhal, which was scheduled for November 23, was called off. Following this, the Indian player stepped onto the field for the first time and created history. She achieved this feat in the first T20 match against Sri Lanka in Visakhapatnam, which India won.
Mandhana didn't play a big innings in this match, but she still etched her name in a special list. She is only the second batter to achieve this milestone. Mandhana faced 25 balls against Sri Lanka and scored 25 runs. In her innings, the left-handed batter hit four boundaries.
Achieved a Major Milestone
During this innings, Mandhana achieved a major milestone in T20 Internationals. She crossed the 4000-run mark in T20 Internationals. She is only the second woman cricketer to achieve this feat. New Zealand's Suzie Bates was the first to do so. This also makes her the first Indian woman cricketer to score so many runs. Before her, no other Indian woman batter had touched the 4000-run mark in T20 Internationals. Mandhana now has 4007 runs in 154 matches. In this format, she has scored one century and 31 half-centuries.
India Wins
As far as the match is concerned, Team India won the match. They needed 122 runs to win, which they achieved in 14.4 overs, losing only two wickets. Jemimah Rodrigues played a brilliant half-century for India. After Mandhana's dismissal, she took responsibility for the team and returned only after securing the victory. With this, India has taken a 1-0 lead in the five-match T20 series. She scored 69 runs off 44 balls with the help of 10 boundaries.
