Russia-Ukraine War: Russia has called for a secret ballot on a draft resolution moved at the United Nations to condemn the "illegal" occupation of four regions of Ukraine. However, India has voted to reject this demand, giving a blow to Russia. More than 100 countries including India have supported public voting. The resolution was introduced by Albania on Monday in the 193-member United Nations General Assembly, for which voting took place. Albania's draft will condemn Russia's so-called illegal occupation and referendum on the Donetsk, Kherson, Luhansk, and Zaporizhzhya regions.

 

Russia demanded that the resolution be voted on by secret ballot. Russia's demand for a secret ballot was rejected after 107 UN member states, including India, voted in favor of a record vote. Only 13 countries voted in favor of Russia's call for a secret ballot. At the same time, 39 countries did not participate in this voting.

 

Russia appealed against the decision of the President of the General Assembly after a proposal to hold a record vote was accepted. Russia's appeal saw a record vote and India was among 100 countries that voted against the challenge made by Moscow. Russia then demanded a reconsideration of Albania's decision to adopt the motion submitted for a recorded vote. The General Assembly decided not to reconsider the resolution after 104 countries, including India, voted against such reconsideration.

 

India skipped the vote last month amid ongoing Russia-Ukraine tensions, while Russia vetoed a UN Security Council resolution that the US and Albania called to condemn Moscow's "illegal referendum". was presented for.
