India, Pakistan to play cricket series after 8 years? PCB prepares for 3 match series, decision to be taken in ICC meeting next week

India and Pakistan can play a 3-match T20 series this year. If this happens, then after 8 years, both teams will clash in a bilateral series. The last T20 and ODI series between the two was played in December 2012. The T20 series was a 1–1 draw, while the one-day series was won by Pakistan 2–1. According to a Pakistan Cricket Board official, he has been asked to prepare for it.

Discussions can be held in the International Cricket Council (ICC) meeting to be held next week, while the Indian Foreign Ministry has said that no decision has been taken on the matter yet. The Indian Foreign Minister and the Pakistani Foreign Minister are expected to meet on 30 March. During this time, a bilateral cricket series can be agreed upon between the two countries.

Looking for the 6-day window for the T20 series

According to the report of Pakistani newspaper Daily Jung, the competition between the two countries is possible this year. The newspaper quoted a source in the PCB as saying that at first, the officer refused to speak on the matter. But later he told that there can be a 3 match T20 series between the two teams and the search for a 6-day window is going on for this.

Pakistan visited India in 2012-13

The newspaper said that if the series starts between India and Pakistan, the Indian team will visit Pakistan. This is because the last time a bilateral series between the two teams took place in 2012-13, the Pakistan team visited India.

The chairman of PCB denied the series

However, PCB chairman Ehsan Mani flatly denied this. During an interview on a channel, he said that no one has contacted him nor has the Board of India (BCCI) spoken to him regarding this series so far.

"Some more T20 series to be played before World Cup"

Interestingly, after the 5th match of the T20 series against England, Indian captain Virat Kohli had spoken about some more T20 series. Virat had told me that the board is planning to organize some more T20 series before the World Cup this year.

Team India schedule quite busy in the coming months

Team India's schedule is very tight at the moment. The 14th season of IPL is to be played from 9 April, which will end on 30 May. After this, the team has to travel to England to play the final of the ICC World Test Championship against New Zealand from 18 to 22 June.

T20 series may be held in July or September last

India will have one month of free time in July after the final of the World Test Championship. This window can be used for the India-Pakistan series. After this, India also has to play a 5 Test series against England in August.

The series ends on September 14. After the England series and before the World Cup starting in October, Team India will have about 1 month. This window can also be used for the T20 series between the two.

The last T20 match between the two teams took place in 2016.

India and Pakistan have not played any bilateral series for 9 years. The two have not faced each other in the Test series since the 2007–08 season. However, both teams have been playing against each other in ICC tournaments. The last T20 match between the two took place on 19 March 2016. Then India defeated Pakistan by 6 wickets in this match of ICC T20 World Cup.

Played 5 ODIs since 2017

Since 2017, India has played only 5 ODIs against Pakistan. All these matches were part of ICC tournaments. In this, 2 matches were played in 2017 Champions Trophy, 2 matches 2018 Asia Cup and 1 match 2019 World Cup.

Did not visit Pakistan after 2008 terrorist attacks

India has not visited Pakistan since the 2008 terrorist attack in Mumbai. At the same time, this relationship deteriorated further after the continuous ceasefire on the Line of Control and the Pulwama attack in February 2019. After this attack, India refused to give visas to Pakistani shooters at the Shooting World Cup in New Delhi. The World Cup was held from 20 to 28 February.

Sports relations have been restored between the two countries in the recent past.

However, the game relationship between the two has been restored for some time. India had given a visa to Pakistani shooter Usman Chand for the Shooting World Cup that started in Delhi on 19 March. At the same time, the Pakistani team also came to India for the Equatorian World Cup qualifiers held from 16 to 18 March.
