India Srilanka: Sri Lankan ambassador meets Sitharaman, thanks India for emergency assistance

Sri Lankan High Commissioner Milinda Moragoda met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday. He thanked them for the help extended by India in times of emergency.

 

According to an official statement from the Sri Lankan High Commission, Milinda Moragouda also briefed the Finance Minister about the current status of the country's debt restructuring process with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). In the context of the current crisis, High Commissioner Moragoda had another meeting with Sitharaman in November last year on Indian economic cooperation and assistance to Sri Lanka. In addition, Moragouda briefed them on the serious effects that Sri Lanka's current economic contraction is having on the country's poorest and most vulnerable populations.

 

The High Commissioner emphasized that India can play an important role in the economic revival of Sri Lanka through multifaceted economic integration between the two countries by enhancing investment, tourism, and trade. Minister Sitharaman and High Commissioner Moragoda also reviewed the status of bilateral economic cooperation.
