The Government of India had earlier decided to send an emergency flight to evacuate its citizens from here. The Indian Embassy in Kabul has urged all Indians in Afghanistan to make arrangements to leave immediately before commercial flights are halted amid escalating conflict. Taliban fighters have reached the outskirts of Mazar-e-Sharif.
Earlier, they had captured the city of Kunduz bordering Tajikistan. The Hindu has written in its report that Indian officers and civilians will be evacuated from Mazar-e-Sharif by a military aircraft.
A month ago, India had evacuated its personnel from the consulate in Kandahar. The consulate of Mazar-e-Sharif has also been temporarily closed.
