Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chairman and BCCI secretary Jay Shah on Monday gave a big update regarding the next Asia Cup. He said that the Indian team will not tour Pakistan to participate in this tournament. Hence the tournament will be shifted to any other country outside Pakistan. The Asia Cup was hosted by Pakistan. He hoped that through this tournament he would be able to host the most popular team in the world (Team India) in his home after 15 years. This would have made the Pakistan Cricket Board rich and completely removed the tag of being dangerous from its country, but India's decision not to send the team has ruined its hopes.
After this Pakistan has come down on the threat according to its habit. There is a voice from his side that if India does not send the team to the Asia Cup, then we will not send our team to India for the next ODI World Cup. The Asia Cup is to be held in July-August and the World Cup in October-November. How much power is there in this threat to Pakistan? Even if India does not go to Pakistan for the Asia Cup Cup, is Pakistan capable enough to boycott the World Cup?
Let us first know what bewildered Pakistan is saying
According to the news of the news agency PTI, along with threatening the boycott of the Pakistan Cricket Board World Cup, the ICC and ACC are also crying. He says that this will cause a loss to the ICC and ACC. A PCB spokesperson said the issue would be taken up at the ICC Board meeting to be held in Melbourne next month. It has also been said in the news of PTI that the President of Pakistan Cricket Board, Rameez Raja, is very unhappy with this decision of Jay Shah.
Pakistan's Boycott will not get anyone's support
Team India had to tour Sri Lanka before the Corona Pandemic. The Sri Lankan board had got sponsors for this series, but due to the lockdown, this series could not happen. The BCCI promised the Sri Lankan board that later Team India will go on a tour of Sri Lanka and make up for its losses. The team went to Sri Lanka later and came there after playing the series. After this, the Sri Lankan board called BCCI its elder brother.
It is not the only Sri Lankan cricket board that needs the support of BCCI to sustain its existence financially. All the cricket-playing countries including Australia, England, South Africa, West Indies, Bangladesh, and Zimbabwe depend on India and BCCI to earn a lot through cricket. From one tour of the Indian team, he earns as much as he earns through normal tours in two to three years.
Therefore, if the PCB takes this issue into the politics of the ICC, it will hardly get the support of any other board. Due to the boycott of the ICC tournament, he will also face the threat of being banned.
India's case is quite strong
If the Indian team refuses to go to Pakistan citing security reasons, then no country in the world can question this decision. Even though Pakistan has recently hosted teams like Australia and England, the volatile situation there is not hidden from anyone in the world. Pakistan is considered the birthplace and refuge of international terrorists. England also finally sent the team last month after canceling the tour several times. New Zealand had canceled the tour there, citing security reasons, half an hour before the start of the ODI match. India can easily prove security threats in Pakistan. Even today, Pakistan continues to promote terrorism in Kashmir. India is entitled to refuse to send Pakistan team on this ground also and the world cannot question India for this.
The absence of Pakistan will not affect the finances of the tournament
About 10% of cricket fans around the world live in Pakistan. India's share in terms of fans is around 60%. But when it comes to cricket finance, India contributes 80% to the global earnings, while Pakistan only 5%. Therefore, even if Pakistan does not play in the World Cup, it will not make any difference to the financial condition of the tournament. In terms of overall status, the Pakistan Cricket Board does not stand in front of the BCCI at all.BCCI is 36 times richer than the board of Pakistan. The value of BCCI is 15, 521 crores. At the same time, the value of PCB is only Rs 427 crore.
Pakistan will suffer a big loss by not playing in the World Cup
If Pakistan does not play in the World Cup, then it will be at a loss. Just as there is a craze for cricket in India, there is a similar craze in Pakistan. In such a situation, the fans there will be isolated. It will be very difficult for PCB to tolerate the fury of more than 200 million cricket-crazy people. By not playing in the World Cup, the youth there can also go away from the game. If this happens, the PCB will not be able to maintain the cricket ecosystem in its country.
Asia Cup is not possible without India
If Pakistan wants to host the Asia Cup without India's participation, then this is also not going to be possible. The current Indian President is the Asian Cricket Council. Apart from this, none of the other members of this council are going to support Pakistan at the cost of India. Sri Lanka is going through an economic crisis. He is not going to oppose India on any front. The same is the situation in Bangladesh. Afghanistan is currently standing against Pakistan not only on cricket but on many other issues.
