Facebook-owned social media platform Instagram today announced Reels, a short video-making tool. This will come as a pleasure for many tiktok users in the country. The move follows a recently imposed ban on tiktok in India. Now Instagram reels will work to fill this gap created by the sudden ban. According to Instagram, more than one-third of Instagram posts in India are made with videos including long-form and short-format videos. The service also observed that live-streaming of videos became an increasing trend during the epidemic.
Interestingly, 45 percent of the videos shared on Instagram was short in about 15 seconds or duration. This inspired the creation of Instagram reels. The company also states that Reels is the future of entertainment and it will cover everyone from big media companies to personal content producers. Also, Reels is currently being launched in only a few countries. India will be the fourth country to receive this feature after Brazil, Germany, and France.
How will work
Instagram Reels will allow users to create short format videos that will be available to share with Instagram's Explore tab by default. However, users will also have the option to share and feed their videos directly to their stories.
No changes will be made in the Instagram Explore section. However, there will be content for the reels at the top which will be included with the new update soon. Instagram has also revealed that once the app has increased speed, it will also establish a money-making model. This will repeatedly allow users to earn from the app through their content, based on their viewership.
How long will you be able to use it?
Note that Instagram reels will not be a new, separate application, but will be a part of the Instagram app itself. After the recent test, the facility will soon have a wide rollout in India. This facility has been started for users in India from today at 7:30 pm, which will gradually come in the phone for users.
