In the northeastern state of Manipur, the process of violence between caste conflicts is not taking the name of stopping. In the latest development of the clashes, at least three people were killed in fresh incidents of violence in Bishnupur district late on Friday night. Officials have given this information According to officials, the deceased reportedly belonged to the Meitei community of the Kwakta area. These incidents included the burning of several houses belonging to the Kuki community, apart from the killings.
The latest incident of violence comes two days after 17 people were injured in clashes between the armed forces and protesters from the Meitei community in Manipur's Bishnupur district on Thursday. Following the incident, the Imphal East and Imphal West authorities withdrew the curfew relaxation announced earlier to maintain law and order in the area. Day curfew has also been reimposed as a precautionary measure.
Armed forces and Manipur police also fired tear gas shells to disperse the protesters in Kangwai and Phougakchao areas of the district. As per information, the incident took place when the Meitei women were attempting to cross a barricaded area in the district. They were stopped by the Assam Rifles and the Rapid Action Force (RAF), leading to stone pelting and clashes between the community and the armed forces.
Manipur cabinet recommends Governor to convene an assembly session on August 21

Significantly, the northeastern state is in the grip of violence, in which more than 100 people have died so far and thousands of people have been displaced.
A notification issued on Friday said the state cabinet has recommended to the governor to convene the fourth session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly on August 21, 2023. Due to the prevailing situation in Manipur, both Houses of Parliament are in uproar in the ongoing Monsoon Session. Opposition members disrupted the proceedings, demanding discussion on the viral video and Prime Minister Narendra Modi's statement.
Adamant on their demand for suspension of all listed business in both Houses to discuss the Manipur situation, opposition members raised slogans and disrupted proceedings, resulting in repeated adjournments.
A delegation of the opposition alliance I.N.D.I.A recently visited Manipur for two days, during which they met the displaced locals in relief camps and Governor Uikey. The delegation briefed the Governor about their experiences during the two-day visit and also submitted a memorandum on the situation in Manipur.
Later, an opposition delegation led by Congress National President and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge called on President Draupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The delegates urged President Murmu to intervene in the interest of restoring peace in Manipur.
