In the northeastern state of Manipur, the process of violence between caste conflicts is not taking the name of stopping. In the latest development of the clashes, at least three people were killed in fresh incidents of violence in Bishnupur district late on Friday night. Officials have given this information According to officials, the deceased reportedly belonged to the Meitei community of the Kwakta area. These incidents included the burning of several houses belonging to the Kuki community, apart from the killings.
The latest incident of violence comes two days after 17 people were injured in clashes between the armed forces and protesters from the Meitei community in Manipur's Bishnupur district on Thursday. Following the incident, the Imphal East and Imphal West authorities withdrew the curfew relaxation announced earlier to maintain law and order in the area. Day curfew has also been reimposed as a precautionary measure.
Armed forces and Manipur police also fired tear gas shells to disperse the protesters in Kangwai and Phougakchao areas of the district. As per information, the incident took place when the Meitei women were attempting to cross a barricaded area in the district. They were stopped by the Assam Rifles and the Rapid Action Force (RAF), leading to stone pelting and clashes between the community and the armed forces.
