The 17th season of IPL 2024 is going to be special for Mumbai Indians. Hardik Pandya will return to the team but this time he will be seen in a new role. The team management had traded the star all-rounder to Gujarat Titans during the auction. In the upcoming season, he will be seen taking charge of the team in place of Rohit Sharma. Many stalwarts of the cricket world gave different opinions on this issue. In such a situation, Yuvraj Singh also did not lag, he talked about this decision of the team management.

In the upcoming season of IPL, Mumbai Indians will start their campaign on March 24 with a match against Gujarat Titans. Hardik will be leading Mumbai while Shubman Gill will be seen leading Gujarat. Rohit Sharma, who has won the tournament title for Mumbai five times, will be seen playing as a batsman this time. On this decision of the team management, Yuvi has said that after Hardik's return, Rohit should have been allowed to captain for one more season. First, make the all-rounder the vice-captain of the team.

Former Indian player expressed objection to the decision

Speaking to Star Sports, Yuvraj Singh said, "Rohit Sharma has won 5 IPL titles as captain, removing him from the captaincy was a big decision. But if you bring any player to the team, like Even if Hardik came... I would have given Rohit Sharma a chance to captain for one more season... I would have made Hardik the vice-captain of the team and seen how the entire franchise is working."

He further said, "But if I look at it from the franchise's point of view, they are thinking about the future. But if Rohit is captaining India and playing well then it is a big decision. So I think Everyone has their own opinion, and the franchise will go with the right opinion considering its future. So I think that was his thinking. Hopefully he will do better."

Mumbai may face a big blow

According to media reports, the availability of Suryakumar Yadav, one of the important batsmen of Mumbai Indians, is considered doubtful in the first two matches of the upcoming tournament. Mumbai will play its first match against Gujarat Titans on March 24 and the second match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (March 27). There is doubt whether the NCA medical team will give a fitness certificate to Surya before these two matches or not.

Last year, Team India's explosive batsman got injured during the series played against South Africa. Due to an ankle injury, he could not even play in the T-20 series against Afghanistan. Surya's condition is now much improved. Recently the star cricketer uploaded a video on social media. In this, he was seen exercising with Arshdeep Singh.
