Israel has intensified its air strikes on Lebanon to eliminate the Iran-backed terrorist organization Hezbollah. After killing Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah in a missile attack, the Israeli army has now started extensive ground military action.

The Israeli army said in a statement that it has launched limited and targeted ground action against Hezbollah in villages in southern Lebanon close to the border, which was threatening Israeli communities in northern Israel. Locals of the Lebanese border town of Aita al-Shaab also heard heavy shelling and the sound of helicopters and drones on the previous day. The Israeli army has now stopped the war against Hamas in the Gaza Strip and focused on Hezbollah.

Before starting the ground operation in Lebanon, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant told local council heads in northern Israel that the next phase of the war on Lebanon's southern border would begin soon.
