Congress has suffered a major setback. Congress stalwart and close aide of Rahul Gandhi, Jitin Prasada joined the BJP. Union Minister Piyush Goyal got him the membership of the party at the BJP headquarters in Delhi. Earlier, Jitin Prasad also met Home Minister Amit Shah at his residence. After taking membership in the party, Jitin took a jibe at the Congress. Said, now only BJP is the party working in the interest of the country. The rest of the parties have become individual and region-specific. If there is any party in the country in the name of the national party, it is only BJP.

 

A new chapter in my life is starting

Prasad said, 'I thank BJP President JP Nadda, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and all BJP leaders. This is the beginning of a new chapter in political life. I belong to Congress for three generations. This important decision has been taken after deliberation and brainstorming. The question is not which party I am leaving. The question is, which party am I going to and why? It has been felt for a few years that today if there is any political party in the country in a real sense then it is BJP. The national party is BJP.

Piyush Goyal said, 'Today Jitin Prasad is in our midst. He is the leader of Uttar Pradesh. Influenced by BJP's policy and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is coming to our party. He has worked in many positions in the Congress organization. He has also been a minister.

Even before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, there were speculations that Jitin might leave the Congress and join the BJP, but then it could not happen. Jitin Prasad has been an MP from Dhaurahara Lok Sabha seat. Apart from this, he had the responsibility of Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development.

There is a discussion in the political corridor that after the arrival of Priyanka Gandhi in UP, Jitin Prasad was sidelined. He also got less attention in party programs. Although Jitin never expressed this openly.

BJP will not benefit, but Congress needs loss

Jitin Prasad may have a big statue in the country, but his hold in the field has weakened. Prasad contested the first Lok Sabha election from Shahjahanpur in 2004. He also became a minister after winning the election from the Dhaurahara seat in 2009 and also became a minister in UPA-2. Then Jitin lost the Lok Sabha elections in 2014. Contested elections from Tilhar Vidhan Sabha in 2017, but did not win this election either. In 2019, he again contested the Lok Sabha elections from Dhaurahra and again faced defeat.

 

His distance from the field was considered to be the major reason behind these defeats. Jitin's stature was very big in Congress. He was very close to Rahul Gandhi. He was also in charge of Bengal. Despite this, his fame among the common people was decreasing day by day. Political experts say that BJP will not get much benefit from Jitin's arrival. But Congress will have to bear the loss. That is because Jitin had raised the Congress, which was facing a continuous defeat at one time, in western UP. He was a big Brahmin face for the Congress.
